Flamenco City Hall Theater Barcelona

Is City Hall Flamenco Theater worth it?

The City Hall Theater flamenco show is one of the most popular in all of Barcelona. It’s the only permanent show that takes place in an actual theater. Because of this, everything is much more, well, theatrical and more grand. The stage is bigger, allowing for more artists to perform at one time, the dresses are bigger and the sound is heavy hitting like at the movie theater.

But is the show worth it? Is it one of the best flamenco shows in Barcelona? Well, we sure think it is. However, this isn’t the only flamenco option in Barcelona. Read on to find out out what we really think so that you can find the show that best suites you.

Originally built in 1875, the City Hall venue has housed several theaters and cinemas throughout the years. But in more recent times, it has been transformed into a sophisticated theater, dedicated solely to flamenco. With 4 daily flamenco shows, it is one of the most visited spectacles in Barcelona.

This modern venue showcases top-tier flamenco artists who command the stage with classic flamenco passion. Moreover, the spacious stage and comfortable seating ensure a truly enjoyable experience – especially if you select a VIP ticket.

Our thoughts on the City Hall Theater Show

The spacious stage of the City Hall Theater allows for a large artist lineup. When we visited, nine artists took part in the show: four dancers, two guitar players, two singers and a percussionist.

Moreover, the artist lineup at City Hall is not only large, but also of very high quality. The venue houses a great repertoire of Spanish flamenco artists with world-class talent, such as local bailaor Iván Alcalá or Manuel Jimenez from Córdoba. The artist lineup also changes weekly.

At City Hall Theater we really enjoyed seeing some of the most beautiful flamenco dresses we have seen in Barcelona. During our visit, the two female dancers with long-tail gowns and shawl (bata de cola and mantón) were really show-stoppers – simply hypnotic. It was clear by the cheers from the whole audience that they were also really taken by them!

Another plus of the City Hall Theater is that since the bar is in the same room as the stage, drinks can be ordered both before and during the show.

Our only critic to the flamenco show at City Hall is that, in our opinion, the stage was a bit too dark (the same happens at Palau Dalmases). So make sure to book a ticket close to the stage.

Other than that, since it is a spacious theater, all seats have good visibility.

City Hall Theater – The Final Verdict

We really enjoyed the flamenco show at Barcelona City Hall Theater. We had VIP seats and loved the comfort of the sofas on the side of the stage.

Another awesome benefit of the VIP tickets are the 2 drinks included. This is quite unusual for flamenco venues and a very nice treat. Moreover, with the VIP tickets you don’t even need to get up from your seat to orderattentive waiters will make sure you have a full glass at all times.

The staff at the City Hall Theater were definitely the best we encountered of all the flamenco shows we have seen in Barcelona.

If you’re more budget conscience and not interested in the VIP ticket, then City Hall Theater is still one of the best options. With tickets starting at 25€, City Hall has some of the cheapest flamenco tickets in Barcelona.

If that sounds good to you, we would still strongly recommend to upgrade to a Zone B ticket for just 5€ more. With that, you will get better seats and a drink included. It’s a deal that’s really hard to beat.

As for the show itself, it did not disappoint. The artists quickly captivated the spectators with their mesmerizing footwork, passionate melodies, and emotional storytelling.

The City Hall Theater might not be as picturesque as other venues in Barcelona (such as Palau Dalmases) and might not offer an intimate atmosphere like the more traditional tablaos (such as Tablao Flamenco Cordobés), but all in all it offers a great show in a spacious comfortable venue and highly recommended.

Food options at the City Hall Theater

At Barcelona’s City Hall Theater it’s possible to order drinks before and during the show, but you will not find any food options.

If you are looking for a combination of a flamenco show with a real sit down dinner, then we recommend you to check out Tablao de Carmen.
