It all started with a summer escape to the Greek islands, an awesome online travel guide and a novel idea that planning a trip didn’t have to be a dreaded chore. Instead, it could be something that you actually enjoy, something that gets you hyped for your travels.
That was back in 2012 when Patricia Palacios founded Eusko Guide in an attempt to showcase her native Basque Country in northern Spain. As that site surpassed the 1 million visitor per year marker, the idea was born to expand into all of Spain. España Guide was officially launched in February, 2020 – just in time for a worldwide pandemic which saw most of us in lockdown. Perfect timing, right?
Thankfully, those difficult times have passed.
Today, Patricia Palacios’ España Guide is one of the leading voices for travel in Spain, having been featured in a wide variety of international publications such as CNN, The Guardian, National Geographic, Huffington Post, Vox, El País, La Repubblica, Lonely Planet, Elle Decor, Trip Savvy, Consumer Affairs, Matador Network, Fox News, and many more.
For starters, we don’t focus on anything else. For over 10 years we have been putting together complete travel guides from places we know on a deep level.
Unlike other travel bloggers out there who only visit Madrid and Barcelona for a few days and then write the “ultimate travel guide,” we actually spend a considerable amount of time in each destination we cover – sometimes a month or more. And then we visit those destinations over and over again. How else can you claim to be an expert unless you actually spend time there?
In addition, we are also history buffs and have studied Spanish history quite extensively. We try to share those tidbits of knowledge in our guides without turning the site into a boring history class. We think that learning about a county’s history is super important to understanding the present day culture. After all, seeing, learning and experiencing new things is a big part of what travel is all about.
Besides spending a lot of time to make sure our content is correct and properly sourced, we also dedicate a lot of time to our photography craft. Almost all of the photos on España Guide are taken by us. Every once in a while we will use a stock photo but those are few and far between.
They say that a ‘photo is worth a thousand words.’ And let’s face it, most of us would rather look at a photo than read a thousand words, am I right? We think that providing high quality images is vital for any serious travel website and we hope you enjoy our hard work and dedication.
If you like the site – and we really hope you do – it would be awesome if you could show your support by booking with our affiliate links located throughout the website. We only partner with affiliates that we use ourselves and trust. It doesn’t cost you anything extra and it helps us continue to grow and make the best Spain content possible.
