Although Cordoba can be explored all year around, spring and autumn are some of the best times to visit the city with temperatures in the low 20’s ºC (low 70’s ºF):
If you want to avoid the crowds, then the winter months are the best time to visit. More concretely, January and February are the months with the least amount of visitors. November and December are a great option for avoiding crowds as well. Although July also gets a lower number of visits, don’t forget about the sweltering heat!
April and May are the busiest months of the year, followed by October.
Cordoba’s main festivities are concentrated in spring. If you have a special interest in Catholic traditions, flamenco, flowers or experiencing a local fair, then spring can be a great time to visit Cordoba.
Semana Santa (Holy Week): Holy Week: April 2 - 10 2023
Holy Week is a week long celebration in preparation for Easter Sunday. Like in other parts of Andalusia, the locals take Holy Week pretty seriously. Expect to see processions featuring lots of religious figures, people wearing traditional costumes and lots of crying. If this doesn’t particularly interest you, then avoid visiting during these days as the city gets very busy and loud.
Fiesta de las Cruces de Mayo (Festival of May’s Crosses): April 27 - May 1 2023
The Festival of May’s Crosses is a very popular celebration where local neighborhoods create crosses made of flowers and then compete to see whose cross is the best.
The Certamen de Academias de Baile (Dance Academies Competition) also takes place during the Festival of May’s Crosses. The students of all the flamenco schools in the city perform at the different stages set next to the crosses as well as in the main stage in Plaza de las Tendillas.
Festival de los Patios (Patios Festival): May 2 - 14 2023
During the Patios Festival, Cordoba’s most beautiful patios compete for the prize to see who has the best patio in the city. Interesting for visitors is the fact that, during the festival, all of the competing patios (usually over 50) are open to the public for free. It is a great way to see some of the most spectacular patios in Cordoba.
Feria de Cordoba (Cordoba’s Fair): May 20 - 27 2023
Celebrated every year during the last week of May, Cordoba’s Fair is the climax of May’s celebrations in the city. During that week, Cordoba is in party mode. The fairground of El Arenal, located 1.7 km (1 mile) south-east of the city, is the fiesta’s official location. It is here where local women parade proudly with their latest flamenco dresses and flamenco music is celebrated day and night.
