Cala del Plomo is a medium-sized cove that’s one of the best beaches in Cabo de Gata. Smooth fossilized sand dunes flank both sides of its crystal clear water. It's a great beach for families with children since the water is shallow and easy to get into. Snorkeling and diving are both particularly good here too.
The beach is accessed by an 8km long dirt road. Considering its remote location, Cala del Plomo is very popular. Nudism is common.

Although there are a few houses behind the beach, the beachfront is totally undeveloped – no services or amenities. Many of the nearby buildings are old rural constructions called cortijos, some which date back to the 18th century.
One of them is know as the Cortijo del Plomo and has a well that was built by the Moors. The Moors once used the cove as a stop-over to fill up on water and rations from the nearby vegetable gardens.
After the Christian reconquest, a watchtower was built at the top of the hill called Punta del Plomo to protect the area from Berber invasions. Unfortunately, the tower isn’t there anymore.
Cala del Plomo is located in the protected Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park. It’s extremely beautiful but a little difficult to access by car.
Follow the road from Agua Amarga in the direction of Fernán Pérez, then turn left at the sign “Cala del Plomo.” From there, follow the rough unpaved road for 8km. It’s a couple minutes walk from the parking area to the beach.
It is also possible to hike to Cala del Plomo from the village of Agua Amarga (about 1 h hike). Half way, is Cala de Enmedio.
The parking area is located next to the beach. When full, cars park on the dirt road itself or in another parking area about 200 m from the beach.
In any case, parking at Cala del Plomo is free.
From the parking area to the beach it’s a couple minutes walk.
From the parking of Cala del Plomo, it is possible to follow a path to the north to Cala de Enmedio, another great hidden beach in Cabo de Gata. It’s about a 30 min hike.
